Debbie Mathew

Debbie Mathew has worked as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist for 14 years and has been accredited with the BABCP for 12 yrs. She has undertaken intensive specialist CBT training at The Maudsley Hospital Centre for Anxiety Disorders & Trauma/Institute of Psychiatry where she gained a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy. She also has a Post graduate Diploma Cognitive Psychotherapy from Southampton University for Severe Mental Health Problems enabling her to also work with more complex conditions. Debbie has a wealth of experience of working with clients with all types of anxiety disorders, depression, and low self esteem. She has also worked extensively with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Patients, as well as Chronic Pain, and has interest in the psychological impact of physical health problems.  Prior to private practice Debbie worked in the NHS delivering CBT in Psychotherapy Services, and teaching CBT to undergraduate medical students at Southampton University. Debbie has recently been accepted as a member of the BABCP Southern Branch Committee. Debbie offers psychotherapy and advice for a wide range of conditions and problems, from the very mild to the severe. She uses both traditional Cognitive and Behavioural techniques, as well as more specialist CBT approaches, such as Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Schema Focused Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Couples Therapy, and CBT Life Coaching principles. She can provide individualized therapy courses that take into account evidenced based models, and client preference. The conditions she treats include – Generalized Anxiety Disorder,  Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Attacks and Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, Health Anxiety,  Agoraphobia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Low Self – Esteem, Personality Disorders, Mild Psychotic Disorders, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Chronic Pain and other Long Term Health Conditions. Most people tend to benefit from between 5 and 20 sessions depending on the nature and severity of the problem.  Debbie is also able offer 1 to 4 session packages of assessment, formulation and self help plan.  The number of sessions can be negotiated as therapy progresses according to the individual client’s needs. Debbie’s clinic runs in The Private Suite at  Shelley Manor Medical Centre , and she takes self referral , Consultant or GP referrals and is registered with most of the major insurance companies
